Welcome to Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida, Inc.

We are a nonprofit dedicated to the rescue of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals. Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida, Inc., founded by Stacy Billingslea, is a 501(c)(3) charity organization based in the state of Florida. Our organization is funded entirely through donations, with all contributions going directly to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats found on the streets or surrendered by families no longer able to care for their pets. Our goal is for all rescues to receive needed medical care and fostered in a nurturing environment until placed in loving forever home. You can assist us by donating, volunteering, or adopting.

Our Mission

We at Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida believe it is our moral responsibility to advocate for abused, abandoned, and homeless domestic animals. We strive to protect animals in need by providing care and placing them in loving, permanent homes. We work diligently to educate the public on the importance of pet sterilization, responsible pet ownership, and the humane treatment of animals.

The Driving Force

Stacy Billingslea, founder of Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida, has dedicated her entire life to rescuing animals. Approximately 14 years ago, while volunteering for an animal rescue group, Stacy noticed that the rescue was not properly caring for the animals, funds were being misappropriated, and adequate adopter home checks were not performed. Sadly, the rescue failed, the charity was dissolved, and the last puppy in the rescue’s final litter was adopted by an abusive family and had to be euthanized. His name was MILO.

The Inauguration

In honor of Milo and to ensure no puppy suffered at the hand of an adopter, Stacy founded Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida. For the past decade, Stacy has been an avid advocate for the rescue of domestic animals. Through her dedication and leadership, she makes sure that all funds received are used for the medical and daily care that Milo’s rescues need and deserve. Stacy ensures that fosters, and potential adoptive families are thoroughly vetted before approving them to foster or adopt an animal. Every year, Milos finds homes for an average of 160 rescued pets. Regardless of their background, all the animals in our care have one thing in common: a second shot at a good life.

Our Rescue Process

When we take in a new rescue, it is immediately screened for potential health issues and receives medical care, if needed. Every rescue is vaccinated, spayed, or neutered, and microchipped. Each rescue is carefully matched with a family based on an extensive adoption application that includes a home visit. Once we find the perfect match, our rescues become beloved family pets in their forever home.

Stacy Billingslea’s home and the homes of fosters, who generously open their doors and hearts to love and care for our rescues while they wait for their future home, are where the rescue is based. Every weekend, Stacy and her fellow volunteers attend rescue events in the hopes of finding loving homes for the pets in Milo’s care.

Stacy could not manage her organization alone, and she is eternally thankful to the fantastic volunteers who assist her every day.
Despite her and her volunteers tremendous commitment and dedication, it is still a daily struggle to sustain the rescue and ensure there is adequate funding and foster homes to meet the needs of the most vulnerable animals in our community. Stacy and all of her fosters are unpaid volunteers that work tirelessly to keep ahead of the fast growing Milo’s pack; but, the joy of seeing a broken, abused, or abandoned animal getting a new lease on life with a loving new family, is all the motivation that Stacy needs to continue to advocate for animals in need.

How Can You Help?

Milo’s Dog Rescue of South Florida funding is entirely from donations and adoption fees. Without the assistance of our volunteers and support from our donors, Milos would not be able to continue protecting and rehoming homeless animals. You can assist with our mission by donating money for food, shelter, and medical care, and by becoming a foster or volunteer. Not able to foster, that is okay, our needs include volunteers with many different superpowers. For more information check out our Get Involved page.
